I've done many studies of fire and how to shoot it ... all I can say is every fire is different in intensity and the correct settings are different due to many factors... this was shot at night with tripod and zoom lens staring into a rather large fire (about the size of a 2 bedroom bungalow) after it had burned down quite a bit ... the radiant heat was phenomenal at 25 feet but the wind blew the flame, smoke, and most of the heat away from me.
I thought the effect of a single-image tone-mapping made this shot interesting.
... like a visage of hell itself.
