In the falling sun, the pyres burned as the enemy lit fire upon fire ...over the horizon thier army of four and ten thousand awaited the wrath of my blade .. the hard steel will bring them to a place where they will only remember .... the last sunset.

An apocalyptic landscape. I just today returned from slash pile burning for the past 16 days... many eerie sights were created as we burned thousands of brush piles left by the forestry operations here in northwestern Ontario.. this place was particularily surreal. A 50,000 acre fire had ripped through here 2 years ago (I actually spent a month fighting it). The following winter the forestry company did a salvage operation, harvesting all the burnt but still viable trees.. What is left there is a hellishly barren landscape of old dead trees as far as the eye can see. After we lit the thousands of pyres there, the whole place became the very visage of hell.. I will not soon forget it.

Thankfully in 2006 there will be a huge reforestation project here .. the soil is perfect for new jackpine growth .. such is the way of fire..
