Well it's that time of year for me again.. back to forest fire fighting again.. my 16th season.  As a veteren, I work a longer contract than most of my peers.  Six to seven months usually.  My official title is IAIC, or Initial Attack Incident Commander, and I run a crew of what we call 'Helitack' (helicopter attack) firefighters... the best our country has to offer.  We're the first to hit the ground while the fire is still able to control, hopefully to catch it before it gets out of hand. ... It doesn't always go that way though..

So my normal prolific self will gradually become less of a presence here at dA and when the season gets rolling (usually in May), it's common for me to disappear off the face of the planet for weeks on end.. hopefully to return with some great pics!  In previous seasons I was just too nervous to carry a decent camera on the line, but this year I've decided to document as much of my adventure as possible..

My Urban Exploration fixation reached new heights yesterday when we snuck through the window into an old toolsmith and furnace building down on the waterfront of Thunder Bay with security only a stones-throw away!  The place was old and dingy.. home to pigeons and rats and full of fascinating artifacts and equipment/machinery from yester-year..  I've decided to start a new account devoted to these photos since I didn't like the way they mixed with my nature photography.. and I didn't want to turn the great majority of my nature viewers off.  I've decided not to promote this account and let it evolve on its own merit.. If you like this genre of photography, you'll more than likely find me   In the meanwhile I've pulled most of my current exploration photos from my gallery here.. I really must apologize for their disappearance if you had been so kind as to fave them.. I suppose you'll stumble on those pics elsewhere someday... and then you'll have found me!

Thanks to everyone who weighed in with their opinions in my last journal..'My Favorite Debate'! ..didn't expect to get that many replies! ..guess its a popular topic and it was very interesting seeing all the different opinions on the subject.

My roommate moves in sometime today so my solitary living style is about to change radically for the summer.. time to go and clean up this flippin' mess I've made!
